Visual Capacity Building for Traditional Owners

THE CONTEXT

Supporting Self-Determination

The Cape York Land Council (CYLC) represents the Traditional Owners of the region. Their mission is Capacity Building—empowering communities to manage their own land, culture, and economic future.

We partner with the CYLC to handle the visual side of this mission. We assist Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs) in transitioning from community groups to sovereign entities, ensuring they look professional when negotiating agreements and managing Country.

STRATEGIC CLARITY

WPPAC: The Art of Subtraction

Commissioned by the Cape York Land Council

The WPPAC group held a deep cultural story, but their original artwork was too complex to function as a corporate logo. To operate effectively in a commercial environment, the Board needed clarity.

We worked with the Land Council to make a hard decision: simplify. We identified The Hand as the strongest element, isolating it into a sharp, vector-based mark.

CULTURAL ACCURACY

Gudang Yadhaykenu: Realising the Vision

Commissioned by the Cape York Land Council

The community brought us a concept featuring the Sand Goanna and the Crocodile, but previous attempts lacked the professional finish required. Crucially, the Elders had a specific requirement: the animals needed to face North to align with their Country.

We redrew the artwork from scratch, ensuring the animals faced the correct way, and applied the specific “Sea Blue” requested by the group.

SYSTEM EVOLUTION

Kuku Warra: Building for Growth

Commissioned by the Cape York Land Council

Corporations grow. Their brands need to keep up. The Kuku Warra Aboriginal Corporation required an identity that could evolve as they established themselves.

We delivered a solid vector foundation first. Then, once the corporation was fully established, we returned to update the master files with the “EST. 2023” date. It proves the system works—updating the historical record without breaking the brand architecture.

SPECIALISED CAPABILITY

Indigenous Corporate Identity

Designing for First Nations corporations requires more than creativity; it requires cultural intelligence.

We are not generalists. We understand the specific legal and cultural environment that RNTBCs operate in. We know that for a Prescribed Body Corporate, a logo is not just marketing—it is a tool for governance and sovereignty.

+ Cultural Safety: We know how to listen, respect protocols, and translate sensitive stories without overstepping.

+ Technical Rigour: We deliver engineered brand systems that stand up in federal courts and corporate boardrooms.

+ Zero Waste: We strip away the complexity to give your corporation a clear, authoritative voice.
